61st Division, ’s Gravenstafel road

The 184 Brigade held a long sector astride the ’s Gravenstafel road. Second Lieutenants Davis and Blythe were killed during the 2/4th Ox & Bucks’ struggle for Pond Farm. It took until the afternoon to capture the fifty-strong garrison but Lieutenant Colonel Wetherall’s men then pushed as far as Hindu Cot. Lieutenant Colonel Muir’s 2/1st Bucks pushed towards Kansas Cross but the moppers suffered heavy losses dealing with Somme Farm and Aisne Farm. A counter-attack retook Aisne Farm from the Bucks but Brigadier General White released the 2/5th Gloucesters to help the rest of the brigade hold on.
